French toast is an easy breakfast recipe and personal favourite as well !! Growing up, at my home we always used to have eggs for Sunday breakfast. It was kind of unsaid rule of my mum’s kitchen. She used to make masala omelette, fried eggs or french toast for our breakfast. And french toast used to be my favourite, bread coated with fried eggs; so yummy!! Honestly, I am still fond of this recipe and occasionally make it for breakfast to revive my childhood memories ☺️
French toast is simple egg preparation where soft bread is coated with beaten eggs and then fried on both sides. Some people like it sweet while others prefer savoury version. I love to keep it simple with plain whisked eggs and pinch of turmeric for beautiful yellow colour. Add some milk to beaten eggs, it gives nice fluffy texture. Personally, I prefer to use only white bread for the recipe rather than brown bread. Coat each bread slice with whisked egg and panfry it. Serve hot along with maple syrup or ketchup and a cup of tea; it’s my preferred combo!!

Ingredients:
4 large eggs
5-6 white bread slices
2-3 tbsp butter
2 tbsp milk
Pinch of turmeric
Salt as per taste
(Proportion for 2-3 people)
Method:
In a separate bowl, break eggs. Add turmeric, salt and milk into it, then whisk everything together.
Allow it to stand for 5-8 minutes.

Meanwhile, heat the pan on high flame. Add little butter and spread it over the pan.
Take a bread slice and dunk it into egg batter. Coat egg mixture to all sides and edges of the bread. I used small white sandwich bread for the recipe.

Once pan is hot, tip in coated bread on the pan. Turn heat to medium-low and fry it.
If required, add more butter to the pan.

Fry bread on both sides until it turns golden brown. Ensure to coat slice thoroughly with egg mixture. Add enough butter to the pan while frying bread slices.
Once all slices are done, serve it hot with maple syrup or ketchup.

French toast turn soggy once cool down, so best serve it hot. You can re-heat it on the pan before serving.
Personally, I love to relish it with some maple syrup but they taste best on its own as well.
If you prefer sweet version, then add some sugar into the beaten eggs and pan fry it. While serving dust some powdered sugar over it. Enjoy with berries, whipped cream and maple syrup.
For savoury version, serve it with fried bacon slices.
