
Pearl millet is a winter superfood which gives us many health benefits. I prepared khichri of pearl millet with other winter vegetables like green peas and carrots.
Ingredients:
1/4 cup of pearl millet
1/2 cup of split moong daal
1 medium sized chopped onion
2 medium sized chopped tomatoes
1/2 cup chopped beans
1/2 cup chopped carrots
1/2 cup green peas
2 tbsp oil
1/2 tsp turmeric
1 tsp coriander powder
1 tsp chilli powder
1 tsp garam masala
1 tsp mustard seeds
1 tsp cumin seeds
1/2 tsp asafoetida
1 green chilly finely chopped
7-8 curry leaves
2-3 garlic cloves finely chopped
Salt as per taste
1 tbsp clarified butter/ desi ghee
Method:
Pearl millet needs to be soaked overnight/ 10-12 hrs. Then pressure cook it upto 5 whistles.
Wash moong daal and keep aside. Heat the pan and add oil to it. In hot oil add mustard seeds and once it spluttered add cumin seeds, asafoetida , curry leaves, garlic & green chilies. Let it cook then add onions and sauté well. Add chopped vegetables, sauté it. Then add chopped tomatoes and mix it well. Add salt as per taste then add turmeric, coriander powder, chilli powder. Mix it well and add boiled pearl millet and washed moong daal. Mix it well add water to and let it cook.
Once khichri is cooked add garam masala and mix.
Serve it with clarified butter and chopped coriander leaves.
