This is an authentic prawns recipe from our Goan kitchen which passed on to me by my mother-in-law. Recipe is quick and goes well with hot steamed rice.
Ingredients:
150 gms of raw King Prawns (or any Prawns)
1 cup shredded coconut
1/2 tsp whole coriander seeds
1 tsp turmeric powder
1 small piece of tamarind
1 tsp chilli powder
1 tbsp of oil
1 chopped onion
3 kokum
2 whole green chilli
2 cups of water
salt as per taste
Method:
In a mixture jar take shredded coconut, coriander seeds, turmeric powder, tamarind and add water. Add water gradually as per requirement, approximately 1 cups of water required.Grind this mixture to fine paste, make very fine paste. If required add water to make thin paste but maintain the consistency and do not make it watery.
Switch on the gas on medium flame and take a pan. Once pan is heated add oil and add chopped onions to hot oil. Once onions turn to translucent add washed raw prawns to it. Stir fry prawns for few minutes and then add coconut paste to it. Mix everything well and add 1 cup of water , salt , chilli powder to it. Let curry boil for 10-15 minutes so that prawns and coconut paste cooked properly. At the end add slit green chilli and kokum into it, let curry boil for couple of minutes. Turn of the gas and our prawns curry is ready !!
