
Horse gram lentil is called as Kulith in Maharashtra. This lentil is very famous for its nutritional benefits and it is advisable to include horse gram in your regular diet. Usually, whole horse gram lentil is used to make curry or dal while Pithi is prepared using powdered horse gram. Powdered horse gram is easily available in India. If you could not find it then whole lentils can be grounded to make powder and used it to make pithi.
Ingredients:
1/2 cup Powdered Kulith
1 cup hot water
1 tbsp of oil
1 medium sized chopped onion
2 green chillies
4-5 curry leaves
4-5 kokum
3-4 garlic cloves
1/2 tsp mustard seeds
1/2 tsp cumin seeds
1 tsp garam masala powder
salt as per taste
Method:
Add hot water to a kulith powder and mix well. There should not be any lump and make a smooth paste.
Heat a Kadhai or wok on a medium flame. Add oil to the kadhai and heat it. Once oil is heated, add mustard seeds. Mustards seeds will start spluttering then add cumin seeds, curry leaves, chopped green chillies & garlic. Give it a toss and add chopped onions. Mix everything well and let it cook for 5-7 minutes.
Next add kulith paste along with kokum. If required add some more water and let it cook for 2-3 minutes. Stir it occasionally to ensure no lumps are formed. Add salt and garam masala powder and stir it well. Adjust the consistency of pithi as per requirement. Let it cook for another 10-15 minutes on a medium flame.
Our Kulith pithi is ready, enjoy it with hot steamed rice and papad.
