Prawns Curry

If you love Seafood then you don’t want to miss this recipe. It’s very simple and quick recipe which goes perfect with hot steamed rice or with any type of bread.

This Prawns curry is tangy and spicy with smooth, silky texture from coconut milk. Actually this recipe is inspired by authentic Goan prawns curry which you can find on my blog. Goan prawns curry requires freshly grated coconut, so I replaced it with coconut milk as its very easy to find quality coconut milk in UK.

Following recipe is enough for 2-3 people. And overall cooking time would be 30-45 minutes, yeah it’s super easy recipe. Then, lets jump to the recipe.

Ingredients:

250 gms of peeled/clean raw king prawns

200 ml of coconut milk (room temperature)

1 slit green chilli

3-4 finely chopped garlic cloves

1 small or 1/2 large finely chopped red onion

2-3 Kokum

1 tsp turmeric powder

1/2 tsp kashmiri red chilli powder

1 tsp red chilli powder

1 tsp coriander powder

Salt to taste

1 tbsp vegetable oil

Method:

Firstly, marinate the prawns with 1/2 tsp of turmeric and 1/2 tsp of red chilli powder. Keep marinated prawns aside.

Heat the wok or pan on high flame. Add oil to the pan and once oil is hot, turn the heat to medium. In hot oil add finely chopped onions, when it turns translucent add chopped garlic and salt to it. Stir it continuously on medium heat. After couple of minutes, add powdered spices – turmeric, coriander, red chilli and kashmiri chilli. Mix everything throughly, at this point you can add 2 tbsp of water to avoid spices from burning.

Next add coconut milk slowly into the pan. Ensure coconut milk is at the room temperature. Stir everything well and let it cook with all spice for another 5 minutes. Once milk starts boiling slowly add raw prawns into the curry. Prawns will cook with coconut curry to absorbs the flavours. Oil will starts separating out on the sides of the pan then add kokum and green chilli. Let it simmer for 4-5 minutes and switch off the gas.

Prawns curry is ready to serve. Relish it with hot steamed rice or your choice of bread.
