Shallow fried Raw bananas or Plantains with semolina coating is a very popular dish from western coastal region of India. Semolina (Rawa in local language) is used as a key ingredient in most of the fried dishes such as potato, raw jackfruit, raw banana and the lip smacking fish fry. Since we are from coastal region of India, fried fish is a famous delicacy loved by all. However in-case fish is not available or one wants to have vegetarian food, this Soft & Crusty Raw Banana fry is one of my favourites..!
So, typically you’ll get green bananas in market, its also called as plantains that should be used for cooking. Recipe is very simple and trust me its very delicious. It goes as a side dish with daal rice or may be with roti/chapati.

Ingredients:
2 Raw banana
1/2 cup of semolina
1 tbsp rice flour
1 tsp turmeric powder
1 tsp red chilli powder
1/2 tsp kashmiri red chilli powder
1/2 tsp salt (adjust as per your taste)
1/2 tsp black pepper powder (optional)
3-4 tbsp oil for shallow fry
Method:
Cut banana into 2 pieces and remove its outer green cover with knife carefully. As we start peeling the banana, it will start turning into black. But nothing to worry, we need to keep it into the water immediately as we peel and cut it into pieces. Also, raw bananas has little glue texture, so when we cut it you might feel some glue on your fingers. You can apply some oil to your fingers and then wash your hands.
After slicing in into small pieces as per your choice, coat them with turmeric, chilli powder, kashmiri chilli powder and black pepper. For chilli powder, I have taken proportion as per my preference but you can adjust it as per your taste. Marinate banana pieces and keep it aside at least for 30 minutes.
Next, in a separate plate take semolina and rice flour, mix it well. Now add salt to the marinated bananas. Once we add salt, the marination will start loosing water and masala won’t coat properly to our chips. Thus, we need to add salt just before we are going to fry bananas.Heat a pan on medium flame, once pan is heated add oil. Now, coat banana chips with semolina and rice flour mixture and start shallow frying it on medium flame. You can add oil as per requirement, it won’t take much time for frying so flip it in between. Once semolina turns golden brown on both sides, remove it from the pan and our banana rawa fry is ready !!
Happy eating !!!
